Overnight, the United States attacked the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, kidnapping Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
Among the sites bombed were Venezuela's largest military base, located in Caracas.
Also overnight, the Justice Department issued an indictment against Maduro and his wife, stating that the two ran “a corrupt, illegitimate government that, for decades, has leveraged government power to protect and promote illegal activity, including drug trafficking.”
The international community has been united against Trump in this action, almost in unison.
With regard to Venezuela, it does seem to have a corrupt government, like many other small nations in the world. But it is hardly a hub for any of the evils that Trump has declared war against. It is not the primary source for any drugs. However, what it does have is oil. Lots of oil. It has been providing oil to Russia and other States for years. It even used to be the primary source of oil for 7-Eleven gas stations under the Citgo brand, until somewhat recently.
In recent weeks, Trump has seized two Venezuelan oil tankers, which most of us saw as a clear indication of what his seige of Venezuela was about.
In a press conference this morning, Trump said we will now be running Venezuela for the foreseeable future, and indicated that United States oil companies will take control of Venezuelan oil.
