In a moment reminiscent of George Bush standing in front of a Mission Accomplished banner in 2003—before all the circles of hell were unleashed in Iraq—President Trump ordered the military to bomb Iran's nuclear sites, and within 24 hours declared victory.
On June 21, three sites were targeted by 30,000 pound bunker-buster bombs. Trump declared in a speech, "I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated."
Intelligence officials analyzed effects and leaked to the press that the obliteration of the sites was actually not true, and Iran was only set back from having nuclear weapons by a few months. Both President Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth contradict their intelligence with their uninformed statements that the sites were completely obliterated. Analysis that came on June 26th indicates that Iran's nuclear program was set back perhaps several years. In short, Iran's nuclear ambitions have not been obliterated, but they've experienced a setback that may be severe.
President Trump had warned that he was considering boming Iran's nuclear sites, giving them plenty of time in advance to remove their enriched uranium and prepare, and this is apparently exactly what happened.
Iran and Israel traded attacks on June 22 and 23. On June 24 President Trump announced that the two countries had agreed to a cease fire. However, in the hours and even within minutes of Trump announcing this, Israel launched a volley of bombs at Iran and Iran launched a volley of missiles at the American airbase in Qatar. Iran also launched missiles at Israel. After that, President Trump berated both countries. Since then, for the last 4 days, it appears the countries are abiding by the ceasefire.
However, both countries have claimed victory in the war they're engaged in, and I believe this idea that they're both the winners is likely helping to keep the ceasefire. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on June 26, "claimed victory over Israel on Thursday and said Iran had "delivered a hand slap to America's face." Israel President Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Israel experienced a spectacular victory.
The goal of these hostilities is to prevent Iran obtaining weapon-grade Uranium to create nuclear weapons. And according to most intelligence agencies concerned with this, they have already enriched uranium beyond what is needed for nuclear power plants. Iran has always said it only has peaceful intentions. It seems, based on available information, that they do have the goal of moving toward nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, Israel continues to bomb the Gaza strip. Their goal there is to eliminate Hamas, but they're bombing indiscriminately and killing mostly civilians. Despite the Israel and Iran ceasefire being in its 4th day, there is still plenty of murder going around. Trump and the Ayatollah are trading trash talk, and the entire world is less safe.
