The National Energy Dominance Council
President Trump established the National Energy Dominance Council, made up of various heads of Federal departments and agencies. This move is aimed at finding ways and means to extract more of the natural resources within the territory managed by the United States. This council will advise the president on how to exploit the natural resources, and how to manage the leasing and streamline the process, among other things. The council is ordered, within 100 days, to submit a plan to raise awareness on the urgency of U.S. energy dominance; advise on how each agency can streamline the process; give reports on factors that raise energy prices; and other related things.
The primary goal of the order is American energy independence, which in and of itself is not a bad goal at all. However, in context with what we know about Trump's energy doctrines and almost neurotic short-sightedness on all matters about anything, we don't have to wonder whether there's a long-term plan, because of course there's not one.
The Trump Administration has moved entirely away from renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power, and instead seeks to ramp up natural gas, crude oil and other non-renewable sources. He has also been keen on nuclear energy. With all that, however, solar and wind (particularly solar) are now a vital part of U.S. electricity production and industry leaders are moving ahead with or without tax incentives, because the business is profitable.
Schools With COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates
Another executive order signed today, eliminates Federal funding for any school or district, or educational organization that requires a COVID-19 vaccine. This effectively forces schools to overturn their policies.
What's more telling in this story is audio footage from the signing, in which Trump appears unaware of the contents of the order, and it has to be explained to him. The president's cognitive decline has been on display for years, since his first administration.
The Odd Case Of Eric Adams
The Democratic mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has been under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, charged with a number of corruption crimes. The DoJ suspended the charges today, leading to some chaos at the DoJ from attorneys who have been working on the case.
Numerous attorneys at the DoJ submitted their resignations. One attorney wrote to his boss, "I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion (to suspend the case against Adams). But it was never going to be me."
Attorneys who have left the department have told media sources that the evidence against Adams was solid and insurmountable, and suspending the case was nothing more than political corruption.
Adams has become a close associate with Trump and garnered his favor. He is cooperating with the President's agenda and has signaled that the Federal Government may do whatever it likes in New York City.
Trump, for his part, has not pardoned Adams, but simply suspended the case, which means he could have the DoJ take it up again if Adams falls out of favor with him.
This is a case study in the corrupt and coercive manner in which Trump's world works, and by which he accomplishes his objectives.
