Over the past two weeks, the president has created an agency called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and given Elon Musk unprecedented access to the government. In recent days, DOGE has been given access to the Department of The Treasury, which includes the payment system and IRS information. In short, Elon Musk now has access to all our names, birth dates, social security numbers, family household information. He can see what our businesses earn, what we earn at our jobs, and our total earnings, our bank accounts, interest income, capital gains, etc...If you file a tax return, he has access.*
Last week, Trump attempted to stop all payments made by the Department of Treasury, then backtracked a little, then a lot, and then got sued, and then withdrew the stop-payment order. However, his press secretary said in a press conference that he had not actually ended his initiative. Soon thereafter, Elon Musk was given access to almost every American's personally identifiable information, our tax returns, every social security payment, all Medicaid payments to States, etc...

*The day after the Administration reported "I don't know" regarding whether DOGE employees have passed background checks, the New York Times reported that a leak from Treasury reports that the young men working for Musk, who have access to nearly all Americans' private data, have passed background checks. This has not been confirmed by the Administration as of February 5, 2025.
