Today, the White House announced a deal with China that eliminates tariffs and retaliatory tariffs on both sides, resumes the sale of critical minerals to the United States and as far as I can tell, return our nations back to square one. It's difficult to tell from the fact sheet what is actually in the deal in terms of specifics. The deal itself—the text, memoranda, etc...—was not published to the White House website.
In short, Trump came in with a wrecking ball, destroyed trade relations, and has now cleaned up most of his mess, and wants us to be proud of him for being a good boy.
Meanwhile, President Trump has ordered the Department of War to prepare to attack Nigeria, claiming that it's a country that persecutes Christians. In fact, the statistics show that Nigeria's unrest involves attacks against Muslims, Christians, farmers, and other groups. A majority of violence there is committed against Muslims.
And what would we seek to accomplish by attacking Nigeria over internal unrest? Ridiculous.
Further, today, the SNAP program ended. This financial program provides money for recipients to pay for food. For the most part, recipients are limited to purchase only food products, and they begin receiving payments around the 5th of each month. But our most vulnerable citizens: impoverished disabled and elderly people, receive the funds as cash on the first of each month. They can use these funds to help meet their rent or utilities expenses, which most of them do. Today, they did not receive those funds. There are reports of long lines at food pantries today, and I'm sure we'll hear more.
Two Federal courts have ordered the Administration to use contingency funds to pay for the SNAP program, but the Administration is dragging its heels and claiming they don't know how to do it.
There is so much going on in this country, that the White House press releases are more or less only distractions now.
