President Trump's Hypocritical Relationship With Drug Traffickers

As we speak, President Trump is preparing for a war with Venezuela. Just yesterday, Trump declared the airspace around Venezuela closed, implying that any plane could be shot down. The administration has already bombed numerous boats, killing 80 people in the Carribean.

It's important to note that Trump has no actual authority over Venezuelan airspace. But the implication that he would bomb planes is very real.

President Trump has accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of being the kingpin of a drug cartel.

In the midst of this, President Trump has announced his plans to pardon former Honduran President  Juan Orlando Hernandez, who was extradited to the United States months after leaving office, stood trial for trafficking drugs to the United States, was convicted in court, and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Back in May, Trump granted clemency to 74 year old Larry Hoover, the founder of a deadly drug trafficking street gang. Hoover was found guilty of dozens of crimes, including murder, and was sentenced to multiple life sentences. He continued to operate as leader of the gang from prison. Hoover was released under Trump's clemency.

Very early in his presidency, Trump pardoned Ross Ulbricht, founder of the dark-web commerce website Silk Road. This site was not only used for drug trafficking, but for everything from human trafficking and murder for hire. In fact, Ulbricht attempted to contract six murders. It is not known how many murders were actually carried out.

Trump has commuted sentences for, or pardoned, at least 10 convicted drug traffickers so far in his second administration.
