The United States government shutdown at 38 days, is the longest in history, and there's no end in sight.
Republican Senators have failed to lure enough Democrats to vote on a continuing resolution to fund the government. Oddly, the resolution they should have passed by September 30 would have only funded the government through November 21. By the time they get around to opening the government, the continuing resultion will almost have run out.
Democrats want guarantees from Republicans that they will pass a bill funding subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, which makes health insurance affordable for tens of millions of Americans. Republicans removed the higher subsidies with their passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill this summer and seem dead set on making insurance unaffordable for people.
This month, the SNAP program was not paid out, leaving tens of millions of poor and disabled Americans without the money they need for food. Federal courts have ordered Trump must pay out the funds from a contingency budget. Trump's administration is staunchly against providing this service to the destitute and disabled, and has taken the matter to the Supreme Court, where a hold has been placed on the release of funds until the court of appeals hears Trump's appeal on the lower courts' orders.
The bewildering amount of mess that Trump has created is more than I can keep up with. I'm a working person with a lot going on in my personal life, and I have little time to compile records. But suffice it to say, that virtually everything that I have written about in the past regarding the suppresion of free speech rights, human rights violations by government thugs, suing Universities, dismantling government, etc...are all still taking place. In fact, the administration is using the government shutdown to fire more Federal workers and take down government infrastructure.
