In the last several days, President Trump has brought Russian President Vladimir Putin to the United States in Alaska, where the two men spoke privately and came out of the meeting praising each other but without a deal for ending the Ukraine war. As a clue to the talk, President Putin left before the lunch that was prepared for the leaders.
In a separate meeting, Trump held a televised meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelenskyy in the oval office. Zelensky was accompanied by leaders from the European Union.
There was rumor that President Trump would bring the two men together for peace talks, but yesterday Trump told the world, "We're going to find out about President Putin in the next couple of weeks. It's possible that he doesn't want to make a deal."Again, President Trump shows that the deals that matter: Ending major wars, and fixing the economic mess he created with tariffs, deals are hard, and he is not the master dealmaker he claimed to be.
