White House Looks In Mirror And Flexes Muscles After A 4-Week Doritos Binge

The Trump Administration, in attempts to help MAGA people find silver linings, stated the following on the White House website today: "Manufacturing is roaring back under President Donald J. Trump." The piece goes on to state, "Today’s jobs report shows American manufacturing is on the rebound thanks to President Donald J. Trump and his administration."

The jobs report shows that 151,000 jobs were added to the United States economy in February. This sounds like a large number, but in the grand scheme is about average.

February, it turns out, was, at best, an average month, and far less successful than last February, when Biden was President.

The added jobs did not budge the unemployment rate.

It is true that manufacturing saw a nice upward blip last month. The White House included links to the economic report on manufacturing, which I linked below. Manufacturing jobs increased by a good clip last month as employers tried to get ahead of tariffs. They beefed up manufacturing to catch up on backlog and get orders shipped. They also needed more staff for intake of orders they feared would soon have tariffs. Sales increased on larger items last month because consumers also want to get ahead of tariff price hikes.

There is very little to brag about here. The White House depends on Trump's fans to have no interest or curiosity about learning anything more than what is spoon fed to them.
