United States Self-Inflicted Wound With Regard To Iran

The State Department sanctioned three businesses that were found to help Iran ship oil around the world through ship-to-ship transfers. Further economic exclusion of Iran to discourage them from creating nuclear weapons has been the administration's policy since Trump took office.

President Trump pulled out of a treaty during his first administration in which Iran and many other nations agreed that Iran would not develop nuclear weapons. Today—at the same time the US is sanctioning Iran—the two most powerful nations who are still part of the treaty, are having talks with Iran to end the treaty and end sanctions against Iran, opening the country up to trade with all the nations involved.

Because the United States pulled out of the treaty, it has no say in this. As China fills the power vacuums left behind as the US withdraws from the world, we will have less and less say in what happens in the world, having yielded it to China.
