President Trump, and President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, met today at the oval office, with the ultimate goal of signing an agreement on the Russian war against Ukraine. This meeting ended in an argument that resulted in Zelenskyy leaving the White House, and Trump lashing out in anger. No agreement was signed.
We do not know what was in the deal, but we do know—because Trump has stated — it involved the United States reaping hundreds of billions of dollars in Ukrainian minerals. President Trump claims we have given Ukraine $350 billion in military aid, although the actual numbers are something like $67 billion. Aside from rough dollar amounts, we do not know what concessions Ukraine would have to make vs. Russia. However, it is widely believed that Russia was slated to make zero concessions outside of ending the war that it started.
President Trump has not been friendly toward Ukraine and has given deference to Russia, and particularly to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and has negotiated with Putin without the involvement of Ukraine. Trump's statements on the matter is that he "supports" both Russia and Ukraine; however, his actions speak louder than words. The fact is that Russia is the aggressor and has undermined Ukraine's sovereignty.

President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskyy of Ukraine, met at the White House today, in a meeting that descended into chaos. |
President Trump's lies and obfuscations about Ukraine have been astounding. He has reported that 4% of Ukrainians support Zelenskyy, when it's actually 65%—a higher approval rating than Trump has ever enjoyed. Trump has repeated Putin's lies about Ukraine: Ukraine started the war; Ukrainians hate their president; Russia has killed millions of Ukrainian soldiers; and as stated above, he has quintupled the amount of help that the United States has actually provided...Right wing American news outlets have expanded on the lies: Ukraine is mostly Nazis, and other propaganda (Ukraine has less of a Nazi problem than the United States); and other wild propaganda. Because Trump supporters believe him and their propaganda machines without question, these ideas are now widespread in the United States.
Leaders of the free world, which excludes the United States now, have expressed solidarity with Ukraine after the events of today. A summit is planned in Europe soon to discuss next steps.
I believe the world needs to abandon the United States. We are not good. We are not just. To the extent that we ever were, those days are over. You cannot count on us to do the right thing. I wish it weren't that way. I wish we could be the light on the hill. But we are not, and we won't be anytime soon. The world needs to move on from us.
