Executive order to gut the Smithsonian of controversial aspects of United States history leaving only information that "sparks children’s imagination, celebrates American history and ingenuity, serves as a symbol to the world of American greatness, and makes America proud."
What Does This Mean?
The order prohibits funding for exhibits that "degrade shared American values," or, "divide Americans by race." This will likely include exhibits that address past and current civil rights protests and legal battles, and the federal government response in support of white supremacists.
The order explicitly targets all Smithsonian references to transgender people.
All the changes to, "Federal parks, monuments, memorials, statues, markers, or similar properties that have been improperly removed or changed in the last five years to perpetuate a false revision of history or improperly minimize or disparage certain historical figures or events." This almost certainly refers to a number of Confederate monuments and sites that have either been removed, or that have been amended to state that the Confederate States of America were a traitor nation that lost a famously bloody war with the United States. Trump will reinstate those monuments and hail the individuals involved as "great Americans." More than 160 Confederate monuments have been removed, and even more amended, to better reflect the historical facts surrounding the human trafficking cartel, the Confederate States of America.
Lastly, but notable and reminiscent of certain regimes of horror in the past, the administration will mandate that federal buildings will reflect the ancient architecture of Rome and Greece. While I love the classical look, I find this philosophy reflects the philosophies of fascist dictatorships of the 20th Century.
