Boss Wants Employees To Do Their Jobs, And Writes An Order About It—And A Bunch of Other Stuff

The President issued an executive order requiring compliance from all State Department employees and requires the Secretary of State to hire people accordingly.

If you really think about it, it's kind of obvious: You do what your boss wants, or you get fired. But President Trump saw fit to declare this through executive order, leading me to think there's something more. Certain pundits are making a big deal out of this, but I think it's pretty standard for any boss to require that his employees follow his rules and objectives.

Mr. Trump Wins In Court

In more important news, a Federal judge in Boston has given President Trump the go-ahead in his deferred resignation plan for Federal Employees.  The plan will pay employees to quit now, and continue to receive pay and benefits through September. The administration reports 65,000 Federal Employees have taken the offer.

Trump Takes On Independent Agencies

The Trump Administration reported to Congress it is asking the Supreme Court to allow him to enforce political purity on Independent Agencies. In a letter submitted by the President's Solicitor General to Senator Richard Durbin, the administration reports that the President's inability to fire people in these agencies—their independence—is an unconstitutional gag on presidential power.

Independent agencies include the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Federal Elections Commission, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Communications Committee (FCC), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and others.

Republicans Squabbling Over How To Implement Trump's Policies

Republicans in the House of Representatives are locked in arguments over how to dismantle vast swathes of the Federal Government. The Freedom Caucus—30 of the House's most right-wing conservatives—simply want to defund the government so it effectively ceases to function and shutters. The rest of Congress, including the rest of the republicans, do not support that. Other republicans want to dismantle the government constitutionally.
