ICE Detains American Citizens Suspected of Being Undocumented Immigrants

President Donald John Trump answered a question to the best of his ability at the World Economic Forum on January 23, 2025. To be fair, not everything he said was completely incoherent.

Armed only with Trump's executive orders, Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided a business in Newark, New Jersey, and used racial profiling to detain multiple people without a warrant, in violation of the Fourth Amendment. Some detainees were United States Citizens and at least one was a military veteran.

A post on the official ICE account on the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The Justice Department under the Trump Administration suspended all Civil Rights lawsuits and is planning to revisit police reform initiatives and agreements. This move signals that any teeth that the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and subsequent acts establishing civil rights have, will no longer be enforced by the Federal Government. The Federal Government has the obligation to enforce Federal laws under normal circumstances, but will become derelict in protecting people during the Trump administration, if this move by the Justice Department is not reversed. In effect, we currently have no enforcement of Civil Rights laws in the United States.

President Trump spoke at the World Economic Forum today after which he answered a number of questions from the attendees. He spoke about America becoming a more welcoming nation for businesses, and reiterated the consequences of foreign businesses failing to do business in the United States. He also talked at length about what he calls an "invasion" at our Southern border, by which he means the impoverished asylum-seeking families who need to escape the violence, poverty and persecution they face in their home countries.

The president rescinded Executive Order 14110 issued by President Joe Biden in 2023. This order was controversial for a few reasons. However, it was widely supported due to so-called "deep fake" images—malevolent, usually sexualized images—of women, which were becoming common, primarily in right-wing circles. Although numerous women were attacked in this way, House Representative Alexandra Ocasio Cortez was most outspoken about the pornographic and violent pictures created, depicting her in various horrifying ways. On this day, President Trump removed the protections of this Executive Order.

Also, today, President Trump established the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), to "refocus science and technology policy to emphasize results-driven excellence and merit-based achievement." President Trump and his followers believe that scientists and engineers have stifled growth in their industries, and have pushed falsehoods.
