President Trump's economics policies, to the surprise of no reputable, intelligent economist, are beginning to show their effects.
Prices for most items have increased .8% (an annual rate of 9.6%), including prices for communication and related equipment, gasoline; canned, cooked, smoked, or prepared poultry; meats; and tree nuts. Electric power and natural gas have increased 12.1%.
Meanwhile, the average hourly earnings for American workers has risen a small amount, while our number of hours worked has decreased, resulting in a net loss of wages.
Lastly, unemployment has risen in a majority of American cities.
President Trump wraps up his first 6 months in office in the next few days. This economy belongs to him. I don't normally assign an economy to the President, because most presidents don't act like dictators in controlling the economy to this level. Most presidents we've had have generally allowed the economy to do its work. But President Trump took a booming economy in January and overhauled it. I believe it's important that we monitor this to see how it goes.
